The 6th CAC meeting included an overview of conceptual recommendations for placemaking and gateway nodes, intersection modifications and street closures, and planned implementation phasing. Placemaking concepts were introduced for primary nodes including Pelham and Mississippi River Boulevard, Burns Avenue and Johnson Parkway, Wheelock Parkway and the Gateway State Trail, and phased connections between Wheelock Parkway and Trout Creek Trail. Short- and long-term closures were identified along Johnson and Wheelock Parkways intended to enhance trail safety and continuity, and add green space along the route.
The presentation of placemaking concepts sparked a discussion about plans and opportunities to further integrate public art, creative whimsey, and interactive play along the route, particularly at key gateway nodes. The December CAC meeting will include more detailed design concepts for the Grand Round. |
